Beneath kunanyi

I love my beautiful simple warm elegant new home, and love the way it sits in the bush on the edge of the Mt Wellington/kunanyi Mountain Park. OCON were excellent to work with, the build was relatively quick and efficient. I had an excellent core team of three patient intelligent and good-humored builders, with others brought in as required. Maegan and the office support was great too.

The project was time-managed well, with relatively little downtime and delays. There were some unexpected hitches along the way which were solved effectively and creatively. I was included in key discussions and always in the information loop. OCON coped well with some quirky requirements (such as the thermal mass water-filled wine bottles hidden behind the plaster of all the internal walls).

I enjoyed feeling very much part of the process of building my new home. It wasn’t just a job that was being delivered, but there was great care and attention to detail to ensure that I was happy with the work. Someone was always available to address my queries or concerns, no matter how busy the team was. There was flexibility as we made changes in aspects of the design or the materials along the way – OCON was committed to an excellent result and willing to adjust as the project evolved. The information flow was pretty good and most of the time I was aware of what was happening when. I felt my team, and OCON, had a wealth of experience and knowledge between them, and trusted and valued their suggestions and guidance. The building process did have some stressful moments as expected, but really it was relatively smooth and pain-free. In the end there were no surprises or disappointments – I am thrilled with the gorgeous comfortable result!

Our beachside dream

Our dream of building a beachside house has become a reality largely due to the team at OCON Built. The journey has been an amazing one and we put this down to the partnership and guidance we received from Nathan and the team.

When reflecting on what made this journey work so well, it was the trust, support and patience the OCON team provided from the moment we selected our Architect. Their professional and constructive input, along with their practical and innovative advice on how to make visions a reality within budget were key for us to now call Seven Mile Beach home.

Once construction commenced, the teams proactiveness to maintain regular communication through scheduled site meetings, use of the Buildertrend App and being responsive and available to answer any of our questions provided confidence and tranquillity. OCON’s transparency provided clear understanding and oversight of where we were in the process and what was coming next. This made decision making straight forward and prevented delays.

The attention to details in our home is astonishing. The OCON Built team’s diversity has resulted in expert craftsmanship, striking material choices and amazing finishes. We have been asked many times if our home matches the vision we started with and truthfully it has exceeded our expectations. We cannot recommend OCON Built highly enough and look forward to working with them again in the future.

A modern kitchen renovation

After years of procrastination my wife and I decided it was time to renovate our very old, (tacked on to the end of our house), cold and drafty kitchen. Nathan from OCON Built was recommended by a friend. We had already had a couple of builders look at our kitchen but they were not very inspiring. Nathan, however, could see our vision.

We had no designer and no firm plan; this project was a work in progress with decisions made on the run. Nathan was very helpful with a lot of his suggestions and ideas being implemented along the way. All the tradesmen, builders, plumbers, joiners, tilers, and electricians were very caring about their work and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.

With double glazed windows, doors, underfloor heating, and fantastic joinery we are now looking forward to winter in our now not drafty afterthought of a kitchen!
